Another night at Penn's waiting for something to happen as the wind whipped upstream and the flies were blown off the water. Thank heavens for nymph fishing before that, a new style of stone fly with a tung. head and a curved hook! Not any really good fish but the ones I got were nice and in good shape. I was surprised as to how much the creek level was down in the few days since I was there! East to see where to wade and able to get to just about any fish you saw rising till the wind put them down! I was at least able to remember to take my felt sole shoes and not kill myself wading.
Have you ever used a rod and felt that it was just not matched up with the fly line you were using or that it was just not the best one for your intended use? I took a 9 1/2' #6 Winston LTX and had a WF6F Sharkskin line and dam it never felt as if I was able to control where it was going but only in a general area. The rod felt heavy and cumbersome not confortable and maybe that's because all my rods that I have been using are 8 1/2 or 8'8" with line weight of 2,3 or 4 to me a 5wt is really heavy, heck I even use a 3wt for nymphs!?
No Drakes in Coburn but there was traffic everywhere and guys at every spot except where I was, that makes two outing with NO ONE around! I guess Weikert is like a mad house, try to avoid it if you can but if you must just get some where early and just wait till dark or go a cloudy shitty day.
